Statice
Statice (Limonium sinuatum) is a fantastic option for flower production and drying in Zone 5, thanks to its resilience and long-lasting blooms. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it a reliable choice for both fresh and dried flower arrangements. In Zone 5, statice can be direct sown outdoors after the last frost or started indoors 6-8 weeks before the frost date for an earlier bloom.
Once statice blooms, it produces clusters of papery flowers in vibrant colors like purple, white, and yellow, which are ideal for cutting and drying. For drying production, harvest statice flowers when they are fully open but before the petals start to fade. Hang the stems upside down in a dry, well-ventilated space for several weeks to preserve their shape and color. With proper care, statice can continue to bloom throughout the summer, providing an ongoing supply of flowers for fresh arrangements and dried use.
Its long vase life and ease of drying make statice a popular choice for bouquets, wreaths, and dried arrangements, providing year-round beauty.
