To start Celosia seeds using soil blocks, gently press 1-2 Celosia seeds into the surface of each block, as they need light to germinate. Mist the blocks lightly to keep them moist but not soggy. Place them in a warm location with temperatures between 70-80°F to encourage germination, which typically takes 7-14 days. Once seedlings develop their first true leaves, thin them to one seedling per block.
-
Transplant Celosia seedlings outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and when soil temperatures consistently reach at least 70°F. In Zone 5, this is typically in late May to early June. Be sure to harden off the seedlings for about a week before transplanting by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions.

To encourage more blooms on Celosia for harvest, provide consistent care throughout the growing season. Ensure the plants receive full sun (6-8 hours daily) and are planted in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. Regularly deadhead spent blooms to stimulate new flower production and prevent the plant from going to seed too early. Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer every 4-6 weeks or use a liquid feed high in phosphorus to promote flower growth. Keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid overwatering, as Celosia prefers moderate watering. Pinching the growing tips when plants are young can also encourage bushier growth and more blooms.
