To start Craspedia seeds indoors using soil blocks, begin by preparing your soil blocks with a light, well-draining mix that retains moisture but doesn’t stay soggy. Press Craspedia seeds lightly into the surface of each block, as they need light to germinate, and avoid covering them with soil. Keep the soil blocks moist by misting them regularly, ensuring they don't dry out. Place the trays in a warm, bright location where temperatures remain between 65-70°F (18-21°C). For added warmth, consider using a heat mat. Seeds should germinate within 14 to 21 days.
-
When transplanting Craspedia seedlings, wait until they have at least two sets of true leaves and the danger of frost has passed. Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil, as Craspedia thrives in dry conditions. Space the plants about 12-18 inches apart to allow for good air circulation. Before transplanting, harden off the seedlings by gradually introducing them to outdoor conditions over the course of a week, starting with a few hours of exposure and gradually increasing the time.
After transplanting, maintain moderate watering until the plants are established, and then reduce watering as Craspedia prefers drier conditions once fully grown.

Water the plants moderately, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. Fertilize with a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer once a month during the growing season to promote robust growth and flowering. Space plants about 12-18 inches apart to ensure good air circulation and reduce the risk of fungal issues. Regularly remove spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering and maintain a neat appearance. Keep an eye out for pests like aphids and spider mites, and address any issues promptly.
